My older brother is responsible for my addiction to pure electronic sounds. He stalked me with new wave and other genres popular in his days. He made me familiar with musicians like Fad Gadget, Dave Ball, The human League, 2 Belgen,... I even listened to artists like Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis and Klaus Schultze. We are talking about, let's say, 10 years ago. I was and I still am very excited about those pure analogue sounds.
From then on I began to search my way through the massive amount of electronic music that allready had been published. It began with my first CD: Album 92 from the Confetti's. Later I bought some houseparty mix-CD's but when I reached the age of fifteen or sixteen, a turning point in my musical history appeared. From then on I started to buy vinyl. Suddenly new genres opened their gates. Till the age of 18 or maybe 19 (my memory has suffered) I mainly listened to genres like break beats, ambient, drill 'n' bass, abstract things,... Everything with no straight forward beat was okay. In that period I took the first nip of turntablism. I played a few sets in Bruges on parties of friends, but still no boem boem tchak tchak. From time to time I filled some hours with playing DJ in an absolute memorable hangout called "Cabaret Revoltaire" in Ostend. It was a fantastic time, although it only lasted 9 months.
It was also the end of my no-straight-forward-beats-period. I began to search and found some records with a strong bumping beat, but also a wonderfull composition and wicked sounds. That was the missing link I searched for. A solid base was found, now began the evolution in the depth.
When I studied in Ghent (1996 - 2001) I met the man who learned DJ's two things: drinking and peeing in a cup while mixing records. Yes indeed Arkanoid. Although I had acid records and new the genre a bit, the most things I learned about it came from him.
I joined Krank Kartell somewhere in 2000-2001. Since then I played on some smaller parties (Mission 303, Virus,Acid in wonderland,Technautics,Emocore...) but also on more important ones like PHOS4, I LOVE MONEY, X6.
To complete my still unimportant palmares I can say that I played toghether with Chris Liberator, Dr. Fernando!, Emetic, Teck & Renald, Arkanoid, Black Francis, Phenomecron, A- Bat,...
